Iconic footwear brand Nike is launching its first NFT Sneaker Collection, titled ‘’Our Force 1”, months after unveiling the .Swoosh Web3 community.
The collection will feature over hundred of thousands of Nike’s Air Force 1 sneaker. It’s inspired by and pays homage to the legendary Nike Air Force 1 sneaker designed 41 years ago.
The drop comprises two variants:
First, the Classic Remix sneaker boxes – made up of virtual kicks based on the Air Force 1 shoes that were launched between 1982 and 2006. Then, the New Wave boxes feature Air Force 1 sneakers which were created in 2007 and beyond.
Earlier this year, Nike shared that four virtual shoe designs envisioned by .Swoosh members had been selected to feature in the drop. Since then, Nike designers have worked with those incredible community members to replicate these designs on the blockchain. These fan-made designs will also be featured and randomly spread among the boxes for purchase.
Nike also stated that the Classic Remix boxes will involve some unique, more tailored AF1s that bring back fond memories. From the New Wave boxes, community members will get some virtual custom kicks with a futuristic twist.
The sneaker boxes cost $19.82 USD for each, a tribute to the year the Air Force 1’s launched – and would not be paid for in cryptocurrency.
Nike has started airdropping virtual posters of AF1 -the key can unlock an OF1 box NFT- to lucky .Swoosh members. Members randomly selected will be able to mint OF1 boxes on May 8. Afterwards, the entire .Swoosh community will be able to buy the remaining OF1 boxes.
There are over 330,000 .Swoosh members and anyone is eligible to join the platform for free!
Nike is one of the popular fashion companies in Web3, so we should not be surprised the release of its first NFT collection.
Previously, it acquired RTFKT and launched virtual sneakers called CryptoKicks. It also created the NFT community .Swoosh on Polygon. With these airdrops, it’s further stamping its name on the Web3 space.
