What is Timex?

Timex Group is an American global watch manufacturing company founded in Waterbury, Connecticut in 1854 as the Waterbury Clock Company. The company went bankrupt in 1944 but was reformed as Timex Corporation.

Like Givenchy and Bstory’s phygital NFTs, the top-selling watch manufacturing company in the United States has collaborated with the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) to create a limited-edition collection of phygital NFTs. The increase in the projects of phygital NFTs shows that the NFT space supports both the virtual and real world.

The Web3 initiative will provide Bored Ape and Mutant Ape owners with a world-first set of phygital items for use in real and virtual worlds.

The Middlebury, Connecticut-based company will produce 500 timepieces and NFT digital twins for the phygital project, with watches expected to ship in the second quarter of 2023.

The Web3 project is expected to be a groundbreaking collaboration between Bored Ape and Mutant Ape, pioneering a new type of product that blurs the line between digital and physical items.

Each of the 500 watches will come with a unique digital twin, in the form of an NFT, that will unlock additional special features and experiences within the virtual world. For example, each watch will have a unique digital asset that can be used to unlock virtual experiences and rewards, such as discounts on products, access to exclusive events, and more.

Some of the BAYC’s long-term NFT holders have consulted the ‘Timex Goes Ape’ phygital project, including Josh Ong, CryptoVonDoom, The Miami Ape, LOGIK, BaronVonHustle, and Zeneca.

Josh Ong, a long-time member of the Bored Ape community, stated:

“From customizing the digital collectible and unboxing the physical watch to flexing at Ape Fest, these incredible timepieces will delight Ape holders while keeping them guessing about upcoming surprises.”

BAYC members to receive Timex Waterbury Classic model watch

Long-standing BAYC members will receive a fully hand-assembled Timex Waterbury Classic model watch for over 30,000 Apes spanning 17 customized qualities for over 30,000 Apes.

The announcement coincides with a push for global companies to use Web3 creative content to interact with customers and audiences. As a result of such approaches, metaverse communities and marketing campaigns capable of dramatically increasing shopper involvement have emerged.
