Solana, a popular blockchain using proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus mechanism, shines like a star when the subject is game development. The blockchain supports experiences in Web3 gaming. For example, recently, Solana Labs introduced GameShift API to accelerate blockchain-based game development on the Solana blockchain.
Solana community is continuing making efforts in the gaming sector by spearheading the first Solana game jam. The first virtual Solana game jam called Solana Speedrun was held on July 26 – July 30.
Before Solana Speedrun, Solana Foundation launched Solana Grizzlython Online Hackathon which was a global competition bringing together founders and developers from around the world. With these two examples, the organization supported and continues to support the ecosystem globally.
What is Solana Speedrun?
Solana Speedrun was a virtual game jam started on July 26 at 12pm UTC, and it finished on July 30 at 11.59pm UTC. In these 4 days, game developers got the chance to build a playable game around the selected theme that was ‘UPGRADE’.
Participants selected between two main tracks that were fully on-chain and Solana-integrated. Also, they were allowed to use pre-existing code and assets, as long as they are open source or properly licensed. However, because of the requirement of creating a game following the selected theme, participants could not submit an existing game.
In the game jam offering $25,000 global prize pool, participants could make multiple submissions with unique entries for each submission. Now, it is time to wait for the winners!
The game jam days were from July 26 to July 30, and the voting process for the submitted games started on August 1. The voting will be done on August 6, and the winners will be announced on August 7.
The voting process is continued with the efforts of the community and sponsor committee. The process, which is entirely transparent, is currently live on Cubik.
A Physical Event for Solana Speedrun Was Organized in Istanbul
Turkey is an important country embracing blockchain technology, NFTs, and Web3 gaming. This reality can be understood easily with the country’s first game jam that is Solana Speedrun.
The game jam gathered prominent people from the Web2 and Web3 spaces together physically in Istanbul on July 30. During the day, the participants got the chance to expand their knowledge about the future of Web3 gaming, the use cases of NFTs in the gaming space, tokenomics in the gaming economy, and so on. Furthermore, it was a significant opportunity to develop network in the Web3 space under the lead of Superteam Turkey.
At that point, we want to emphasize that NFT Horizon participated in the first game jam of Turkey as a strategic partner. The co-founder of NFT Horizon, Ulascan Deniz Genc, shared his valuable insights at the panel of ‘’NFTs will Revolutionize the Gaming Industry’’.
Solana intends to improve the Web3 world and gaming sector, and it revealed the intention with Solana Speedrun. We hope that the number of great events supporting Web3 gaming, like the game jam, will be increased.
