When the first rumors about Grand Theft Auto 6’s being developed hit the public a couple years ago, there was a little detail that made the web3 community be interested in the game more than any others: GTA 6 may have a cryptocurrency reward system.
Of course, GTA is being known for its parodying real life systems in their game systems. For instance, GTA 5 had its own stock market where players can invest in-game money. So, the upcoming GTA’s cryptocurrency rumor will most likely be related to an in-game crypto market that functions like GTA 5 ‘ stock market.
As the Grand Theft Auto series is known for their game-changer design in the gaming industry, there is a chance, although a slim one, that Rockstar may integrate NFTs in GTA 6. Of course, this will be determined if Rockstar decided to join the other big names who invested in blockchain and web3 technology.
What started these rumors again is the latest leak of Grand Theft Auto 6. On September 19, one of the users in GTAForums leaked about 90 videos of GTA 6’s test build. This latest leak, as one of the biggest leaks of video game history, showed us GTA 6 is in the early stages of development, so there is still a long way for Rockstar to finish the game. Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two has issued takedown notices for the video leaks. Although most of the videos have been taken down, many backup clips sprouted back by other users on the internet.
What do the leaks say to us?
Obviously, any details we have learned so far are subject to change. Yet, what we learned from the leaks so far is that GTA 6 will take place in Vice City. Moreover, there will be more than one character, like we had in GTA 5. It’s also confirmed the rumor that one of the said characters is female which will be the first female playable character in Grand Theft Auto history.
Vice City being the location is one of the oldest rumors since the first leak of GTA 6’s development occurred a couple of years ago. However, with that came another rumor which suggests GTA 6 will also take place in the 70’s or 80’s. However, the videos showed us that the new GTA will take place in modern times.
Lastly, according to Bloomberg’s notorious journalist in the gaming industry, Jason Schreier stated that this leak will disrupt Rockstar’s work for a while, which will probably result in the delay of the release of Grand Theft Auto 6.
